Travel medicine: Prepare your health before you go

Please read the following information before coming to the travel medicine consultation.

Travel Medicine Consultation

The travel consultation is carried out by a doctor specializing in travel medicine, and in particular in infectious and tropical diseases, who needs to know your medical history, any medications you’ve taken, any childhood illnesses you’ve had, and the full history of your vaccinations since childhood – so take all your vaccination records with you. The consultation lasts 30 minutes.

Travel medicine goals

Travel medicine focuses on the prevention of infectious diseases during short- or long-term tourist, business or family stays in regions where medical resources may be limited.

A fundamental aspect is international vaccination and drug prophylaxis against malaria, as well as specialized advice adapted to the traveler’s age and type of stay.

Pre-travel consultations & vaccinations

  • FOPH-approved yellow fever vaccination center: We are authorized to administer the yellow fever vaccine, which is compulsory for certain countries in Africa and South America.
  • Advice on Compulsory and Recommended Vaccinations: We provide information on mandatory and recommended vaccines, such as tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, pneumococcus, seasonal flu and tick-borne meningoencephalitis.
  • Targeted vaccinations: Depending on your destination, length and type of stay, we offer vaccinations against hepatitis A, ACWY meningitis, typhoid fever, rabies, Japanese encephalitis and other tropical diseases.

Pre-travel consultations & prophylaxis

  • Advice and prophylaxis against malaria: We prescribe preventive treatments against malaria and give advice on how to avoid mosquito bites, the vectors of diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya.
  • Personalized advice: We adapt our advice to your state of health (pregnancy, children, immunocompromised, advanced age) and to your local activities. This includes recommendations on health risks, high-altitude medicine, sexually transmitted infections and the preparation of your travel medical kit.
  • Duplicate vaccination records: In the event of loss, we can help you reconstruct your vaccination history.

Consultation on returning from a trip

  • Management of Post-Travel Pathologies: We provide screening and treatment for any pathologies that may arise following a stay abroad (fever, diarrhea, skin problems, animal bites, envenomation, etc.), in collaboration with our infectious and tropical diseases department.

Financial support

Travel consultations and vaccinations must be paid for directly by credit card at the time of your visit, and are not covered by health insurance. However, if you have supplementary insurance, some may reimburse these costs.

For professional purposes, the cost may be covered by your employer. It is the patient’s responsibility to request reimbursement from his or her employer, or to use a professional credit card.
